Yellowstone National Park
Upper Geyser Basin Old Faithful and
On the hill overlooking Old Faithful
(there is a fairly well-marked trail
to take you on a loop up and around
to get a birds-eye view of old
Faithful that most tourists don't
bother to walk. The easy Geyser
Hill loop will take you by some 40
geysers, and is located just across
the Firehole River from Old Faithful
Morning Glory PoolGrand
Lower Geyser Basin includes Great
Fountain Geyser, Biscuit Basin,
Jewel, Sapphire Geysers.
Firehole Lake Drive, one-way road
north to Great Fountain Geyser. It
erupts only every 8 to 12 hours,
sends a spray up 100 feet or more,
and sometimes twice that height, and
sometimes can last 45 to 60 minutes
Firehole Falls and Firehole Cascades
Biscuit Basin about three miles
north of Old Faithful. The trail
here will take one across the
Firehole River to Sapphire Pool and
past Jewel Geyser, which erupts
every 7 to 10 minutes
Midway Geyser Basin includes, Grand
Prismatic Spring, Fountain Paint
Pot
Norris Geyser Basin
Mammoth Hot Springs Minerva Terrace,
take the Upper Terrace Drive,a
half-mile loop which provides access
to the upper end of Mammoth Hot
Yellowstone Lake Great place for
sunsets around Lake lodge on
Yellowstone Lake.
West Thumb Geyser Basin
Hayden Valley
Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone is
another great area for viewing and
photography. You will want to go on
both sides of the canyon and take
some of the trails available.
Inspiration Point, North Rim Trail,
Seven Mile Hole Trail, Red Rock
Point, Brink of the Lower Falls
trail, Artist Point, and others
should not be missed. Upper and
Lower Falls usually you can see a
rainbow at them, about 10 or 11
o'clock in the morning.
Mystic Falls a one-mile trail where
the Little Firehole River drops 100
feet.
Kepler Cascades about 14 miles west
from West Yellowstone.
Lonestar Geyser a partly paved
trail, about five miles round trip.
Lone Star erupts about every 3 hours
from a nine foot-high cone.
Black Sand Basin
Fairy Falls, 1.5 mile trail to the
falls, which drops 200 feet into a
large pool.
Excelsior Geyser
Undine and Wraith Falls, Undine
Falls is a 60-foot-high double
falls, while Wraith Falls is a
90-foot cascade on Lupine Creek.
Tower Falls at Tower Junction, Tower
Creek plummets 132 feet into the
Yellowstone River.
Mount. Washburn. Two trails travel
to its top of the peak. Bighorn
sheep can be seen near the trails a
lot of days. View at the top are
nice in everyl directions, on a
clear day can see the Teton's.
Yellowstone River and Yellowstone
Lake. Both provide many great photo
opportunities, and also many
wildlife. It's the area in which to
see bison, moose, and elk and deer.
Wildlife
They don’t tie them down so they move all over the park.
Some places though are better than others. Mamouth right in town and Norris is a good place to see elk.
Bison can be seen throughout the park but are most prevelant in the gyser basin and between
Fishing Bridge and Canyon in the Hayden Valley.
Watch for Trumpeter Swans around Yellowstone Lake and between
West Yellowstone and Madison Junction in the Madison River.
Mt. Washburn.near the top is good for Big Horn Sheep.
Black bear sightings are very common around Roosevelt/Tower Junction.
Wolf packs in the Lamar Valley.
Grand Teton National Park
Schwabacher Landing a must Good for sunrise, there will be a line.
Oxbow Bend is a must Good for sunsets there will be a line. About a half mile walk to the beaver pond to
get the reflection with the Tetons.
Snake River Overlook a must ( one place for sunset)
Jenny Lake you can also take a
shuttle boat to the falls across the
lake.
Old Barns on Mormon row Good for
sunrise, there will be a line.
Signal Mountain good at sunrise.
Colter Bay
Cunningham Cabin sunrise or sunset.
Fall colors are unbelievable here
mid September to Mid October. Elk
are bugling.
