Lake Geneva, Wisconsin is about 1-1/2 hours north of Chicago (just over the State
line). After the Civil War the town became a big resort area for wealthy
Chicago families. Some of the visitors of the time were Mary Lincoln,
General Sherman and General Sheridan.
Wisconsin dells along I 94 to lacross nice huge cliffs to photograph. Also take a
boat tour of the upper and lower Dells.
Parfreys Glen the walls of the gorge are just 15 feet apart in places and probably rise at least 60 feet in the air
Devils Lake State Park
International Crane foundation just south of Wisconsin
Wyalusing State Park. Bluff overlooks the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers.
Great River Road from LaCross quaint towns and nice scenery with plenty of wild life.
Old World Wisconsin. Nice recreated old farms from the 1800’s also wild turkeys
and cranes.
Great River Road Highway 35 along the Mississippi River. Lots to photograph.

Ironwood check out the roads along the Black River for the many waterfalls on the river.
Black River Harbor Park on Lake Superior.
Bond Falls about 20 miles north of Land O Lakes off of Highway 45.

wildlife.
Vernon Marsh State Wildlife Area
outside of Waukesha good for birds.
Willow River State Park some falls and wildlife.
Nerstrands Big Woods State Park
Caron County Park in Rice County
Horicon National Wildlife Refuge Marsh best in April to early May just after the hatching
of the Canadian geese. Also sighting of Herons, Egrets, cranes and turkeys can also be
spotted in the vicinity. Horicon great for birds in the fall. Route 49 is the
most accessible road to the marsh area. Also some short hiking trails and cattail
marshes. July is a good time for shorebirds in the shallow pools at the western
end of the road. In the state area of the marsh, take the trail around Goose
Pond near the headquarters for some ducks and other birds. There is also a nice view
of the marsh from the top of the hill. You can rent a canoe and paddle around
the marsh in the state section.
Wintering Bald Eagle
Praire du Sac and Sauk City is prime viewing area for some 200 wintering bald eagles
try the dam on the Lower Wisconsin River. Eagles are there from mid-December through
mid-February with mid-January being the best time. The powerplant located north
of Prairie du Sac is an excellent spot to photograph bald eagles fishing. Veteran's
Park and the bluffs behind Wollersheim Winery are also good for eagles. In
Pairie du Sac try around Fire House restrant. In Sauk City try Derleth Park.
The bluffs between Sauk City and Spring Green. Also below Petenwell Dam.
In Cassville try the Wisconsin Power & Light Company power plant and Dairyland power
plant. The Nelson Dewey State Park has excellent views of the river and historic
Stonefield Village. In Cassville try Riverside Park.
Door County north east of Green Bay has many lighthouses and a rocky coastline. There
are a number of small hamlets on the Bay side that are unique: Fish Creek, Egg harborand Ellison
Bay. There's a ferry to Washington Island at the tip of the peninsula.
Crex Meadows State Wildlife Area,
end of October the Sandhill cranes rest there prior to migrating south
Devils Lake State Park and the Parfrey's glen near Baraboo
Nemakagon Barrens Wildlife Area
For fall colors starting in the northern part of the state in early September and going
south thru early November. Peak fall colors is in October. try Minocqua in
northern Wisconsin's lake country, drive by Trout Lake and Presque Isle. Also try
Route 70 to St Germain and returning via Lake Tomahawk. Explore the area around
Lac du Flambeau, Copper Falls, Amnicon Falls and Manitou Falls State parks. Take
Route 13 between Ashland and Herbster on the Lake Superior shoreline. Try photographing the
fall foliage with rock formations and lighthouses, especially around Apostle Islands. Route 77
through Chequamegon National Forest also Route F between Danbury and Gransburg along the St.
Croix River in Governor Knowles State Forest. In the central part of the state try the
observation tower at Rib Mountain State Park near Wausau. Also Timm's Hill near Ogema
provides a high view of the surrounding woodlands. Another good destination is Devil's Lake
State Park and the Baraboo Hills. For Southern Wisconsin try the Kettle Morain Scenic
Drive. In Pictured Rocks region take H-13 south from Munsing area into the national
forest, there are lots of nice lakes for trees reflecting in the lakes.
Also Holy Hill and the surounding
farms provide great back drops with
the fall colors.
