San Antonio
Mexican Market which is a few block West of the River walk. I like the River walk
after dark.
River walk - shoot early or late, or on a cloudy day.
The Alamo - exterior shots only NO INSIDE PHOTOS. Shoot early morning or late
afternoon for best light. It's lighted at night. Closed at 5:30PM. Nice gardens
as well.
The artist's village of LaVilleta (just off the River walk) is great, but go early
in the day if possible.

Restaurants – try Boudro's on the River walk (great Gulf seafood), Las Canarias in
the Mansion del Rio hotel and Citrus in the Hotel Vallencia, Schilo's Deli on E.
Commerce Street has a great breakfast menu and great deli
sandwiches, Zuni Grill
(River walk) serves a great Prickly Pear
Margarita.
San Antonio Missions, Missions Espada, San Juan, San Jose, Concepcion.
Guenter House, San Antonio: Museum for Pioneer Flour Mill, Fantastic breakfast biscuits and gravy and mouth-watering breakfast pastries. Very German-type.
Big Bend National Park April good for wildflowers.
Texas Hill Country is the best area of the state for
wild flowers. The Hill
Country is Austin, west to Fredericksburg, east to La Grange and south to San
Antonio. Try Highway 16 north from Fredericksburg to Llano, then east on Highway
29 to Burnet, then south on US 281 to Johnson City, then back to Fredericksburg on
US 290. Also Willow City Loop out of Fredicksburg Take route 16 toward Llano,
right on Ranch Rd 1323 before Eckert to get to the loop. Burnet and Llano counties best.
Best time is March-April.

San Jacinto Monument. in Deer Park just south of Houston good for birds
Seabrook, right next to Kemah on Galveston Bay. Good for birds.
High Island, good for birds during March and April
Brazos Bend State Park, alligators and birds. southwest of Houston
The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center
Stop at Palo Duro State Park near Amarillo
Lake Meredith National Recreation Area
Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument north of Amarillo.
Texas State Railroad between Rusk and Palestine the steam train goes about 50-miles

Fort Worth Water Gardens they are located at the end of Commerce street. sunset or at night.
Sam Rayburn Lake located by
Broaddus. Catch the sun setting over Rayburn at the 147 bridge, Traveling US 69 South from Lufkin turn left on US63 in Zavalla, then left on 147, go to long bridge.
Fall Color in Central Texas
Medina River area from late October to early November, Lost Maples
State Natural Area from mid-October
to mid-November. Try Route 16 northwest to Medina then take Ranch Road 337 west
along the Medina River. At Vanderpool turn north on Ranch Road 187 and drive five
miles to Maples State Natural Area, continue north on Ranch Road 187 to Route39.
At Hunt take a short detour north on FM 1340 to a replica of Stonehenge and some
Easter Island stone images. Continuing east from Hunt, Route 39 follows the
Guadalupe River. Also try west from Vanderpool on Route 337 to Leakey and then
take Route 83 south along the Frio River Canyon to Garner State Park. then east to
Ranch Road 187 then north along the Sabinal River.
Hwy 71 between Austin and the Highland Lakes areas, Marble Falls, Johnson City and
Blanco areas.
Guadalupe Mountains National Park. late October to mid-November. Try route 180/62,
Frijole Ranch. trail to Manzanita Spring and Smith Spring, McKittrick Canyon,
Pratt Cabin. Grotto with seeping water and ferns. Davis Mountains, Fort Davis,
Limpia Creek, Davis Mountain State Park, McDonald Observatory on Mount Locke, town
of Canadian, Winnsboro take Route 11 east to Daingerfield State Park then From
Route 259 south of Daingerfield State Park to FM 729 to Caddo Lake. Take the
Texas State Railroad. Don’t forget Big Bend National Park
